I received my Licenciatura in Archaeology from the Universidad de Tarapacá in 2011 (Chile). For this degree I carried out a prospection focused on the Camarones Valley, an oasis located in the Atacama desert, the driest place on earth. After the prospection I started a research focused on understanding from the archaeological record that lies on the ground the traces of small-scale societies, and how this type of evidence challenges the presumptions on the diversity of human groups inhabiting the Atacama. This presumption refers to the restricted settlement in 'harsh' places (away from freshwater sources), and how our own modern understanding of harshness and environment as a whole restrict and blur the interpretation of past pre-industrial peoples.
