I have been working in English Language Teaching for nearly 25 years, beginning with general EFL in Japan and culminating in my current position at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. I am involved in three specific areas currently: English for Academic Purposes (EAP), Teacher Training (particularly to overseas English Language Teachers, and teaching on an MSc TESOL programme. I have presented at conferences such as BALEAP (British Association of Lecturers in English for Academic Purposes) and a PGR conference in Exeter University. These were related to Listening in EAP, and Error Correction/Corrective Feedback in EAP.
It was the latter field that led my to my current status as a part-time EdD student at Exeter University. My interest in, and questioning of, the practice led to a desire to research and investigate further into the efficacy and rationale of it. However, since beginning my studies I have taken a more global view of the English Language Learning process. In particular, I am currently researching this with regards to the identities of EAP students (past, present and imagined) as a potential source for a pedagogical tool in the EAP writing context.
