Anna Tzakou is a theatre deviser, performer, and practitioner from Athens, Greece. As a theatre artist she is affiliated with post-modern performance practices of American and European lineages as well as with Buddhist meditation. Her performance training is structured by methods of somatic movement, psychophysical acting training, dance improvisation and meditation practices. Anna elaborates a theatre process which focuses on working without knowing, exploring the hidden as well as the impulsive, and performing from a place of responding rather than doing. She is interested in performance scores of physicality and emotional edginess; investigating place as performance site and testing the performance act as social and political event. Anna has participated and worked in site-specific performances, ensemble projects and festivals (Greek Festival, Onassis Cultural Center, Ancient Drama Festival of Athens, and Athens Biennale 3. She received her MFA in Theatre: Contemporary Performance from Naropa University (class 2010) where she studied the Six Viewpoints technique with Wendell Beavers, Contemplative Dance Practice with Barbara Dilley, and Grotowski- based psychophysical actor training with Steve Wangh. Anna has been awarded by the Fulbright Foundation scholarship (year 2008) and she is currently an Onassis Foundation scholar.
