Ari Cooper-Davis

College: College of Humanities
Discipline: Interdisciplinary Institute
Department: Center for Water Systems
Research Centre/Unit: Water Informatics: Science & Engineering (WISE CDT)

Ari graduated from the University of Exeter in 2018 with an MSci in Natural Sciences. During his degree he explored his academic interests in computer science, catchment hydrology, and environmental science. For his masters research project he worked with the Exeter Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) Group as a computer scientist to improve the accuracy and efficiency of this novel 3D imaging technique.

Ari is an experienced caver, and a member of the British Cave Research Association. He hopes to use his WISE PhD project to approach his hobby from a more academic perspective, and is considering research into the effects of karst hydrology on river flow dynamics. Having grown up in the Lake District he has first-hand experience of the flood risk associated with short, steep catchments, so is also exploring research topics in the optimisation of natural flood management strategies in these areas.
