Conferences/Symposiums

2009:

IMMA 2009

The International Mining and Minerals Association conference 2009: Minerals Research in UK Universities, Imperial College, 15th-16th December 2009

I presented my MSc research at a PhD level conference, with the title 'Profiling Ni-bearing silicate phases in lateritised material using QEMSCAN automated mineralogy'.

MDSG 2011

The Mineral Deposits Studies Group conference 2011: The Natural History Museum, London, 5 - 7th January, 2011

I presented my initial PhD research as a poster, entitled 'Towards exploration tools for high purity quartz and rare metals in the South Norwegian Bamble-Evje pegmatite belt'.

PEG 2011

5th International Symposium on Granitic Pegmatites: Mendoza and environs, Argentina, 20th - 207th February 2011

I presented my initial research findings (subject introduction, hypotheses, field observations and preliminary conclusions) at an international conference, which consisted of a poster with the title 'Towards exploration tools for high purity quartz and rare metals in the South Norwegian Bamble-Evje pegmatite belt'.

The conference was attended by an international panel of guests, including a host of esteemed researchers. The first three days consisted of lectures and poster presentations, with the final four comprising a field trip to observe local pegmatite examples. It was a fantastic opportunity to mingle and interact with 'pegmatologists' at the forefront of research.

MDSG 2012

The Mineral Deposits Studies Group conference 2012: Cardiff University and the National Museum of Wales, Cardiff, 3 -5th January, 2012

I presented initial quartz geochemistry and it's implications to pegmatite genesis as an talk entitled 'High purity quartz from south Norwegian pegmatites: trace element distribution and behaviour'. I received an honourable mention, and was considered for the student prize of best presentation.

MDSG 2013

The Mineral Deposits Studies Group conference 2013: Leicester University, 2 -4th January, 2013

I presented quartz geochemical, cathodoluminescence imaging and O-isotope analyses, and the associated implications to high purity quartz formation in a talk entitled 'Magmatic or hydrothermal? High purity quartz from south Norwegian pegmatites'.

The Geological Society Young Careers Event 2013

Camborne School of Mines, November 2012 and the Geological Society, Burlington House, 23 April, 2013

I presented data pertaining to my PhD initially at a regional event, and was announced best speaker of the evening. I went on to London several months later to compete in a national event against four other regional winners, but was not chosen to win.

GAC-MAC 2013

GAC-MAC joint annual meeting, 22 - 24 May, 2013

See following PEG 2013 description

PEG 2013

6th International Symposium on Granitic Pegmatites: New Hampshire and Maine, 26 - 31 May, 2013

In a manner similar to MDSG 2013, I presented pegmatite generation mechnisms based on spatial geochemistry, SIMS dating of zircons and geochemical modelling, and more fully quartz geochemical, cathodoluminescence imaging and O-isotope analyses, with the associated implications to high purity quartz formation in a talk entitled 'Towards exploration tools for high purity quartz in the Bamble-Evje pegmatite field, south Norway'.
