I am a third year PhD student at the University of Exeter. I am currently working on the history of London Zoo during the nineteenth century, but have a general passion for animal histories. The project is funded by the University of Exeter College of Humanities studentship and is titled 'Zoological Imperialism: The London Zoological Gardens in the Nineteenth Century, 1847-1903'. The current project investigates the globality of the London Zoo, focusing on three overarching themes: the production of zoological knowledge, personnel and the social networks at the zoo, and the ZSL’s colonial entanglements in the process of animal acquisition.
