Wider Research Interests

My primary research interests lie in Chineseness, cultural hybridity, and Chinese immigration on Spanish/Latin American screens. However, I do foster a keen interest in:

- Female homoerotic desire and sexuality on screen in China, as evidenced by my MA dissertation "Growing Pains: trials of unrequited love, unclosed love, and silenced homosexuality in Butterfly (蝴蝶) and Love Me, If You Can (飞跃情海)"

- Memory, trauma, and catharsis, particularly in the works directed by Pedro Almodóvar

- Interracial relationships on film

- Peripheral 'Almodóvar girls,' specifically the on-screen activity of the actress Lola Dueñas

- Divorce and upheaval in the family unit on screen
