Milka is a PhD candidate at the College of Social Sciences and International studies. She holds an MA in Political Science (with Distinction) from the Central European University (Hungary) and an MA in Human Resource Management in Culture and the Non-profit Sector from the University St.Cyril and Methodius (Macedonia). During the autumn term 2017 she conducted a short research stay at the University of Amsterdam, Department of Political Science, programme group 'Challenges to democratic representation'.

For her PhD she is researching the impact of non-profit regulation and different forms of state funding on the internal governance and membership involvement of associations in the UK and the Netherlands. She has been awarded a ​PhD Studentship funded through a Starting Grant of the European Research Council (ERC-STATORG) awarded to Principal Investigator Prof. Nicole Bolleyer.

In addition to her work on the PhD research, Milka works as a research associate on the interdisciplinary research programme Regulating Civil Society: NGO and Party Law and their Consequences (http://socialsciences.exeter.ac.uk/regulatingcivilsociety/).

Her main research interests are non-profit regulation, non-profit governance, policies for civil society development, organisational change and maintenance of interest groups/voluntary organisations, and various aspects of state-civil society relations. She has presented her research at the European Consortium for Political Research General Conference, the European Consortium for Political Research Summer School on Interest Group Politics, the Political Studies Association Annual International Conference and the International Conference of the International Society for Third Sector Research.

In the past Milka worked as a policy researcher in non-governmental organisations and has been a team member of various projects focusing on good governance and civic engagement in Macedonia.
