Project Summary
Taking a social constructivist approach, my research will seek to challenge essentialist concepts of teacher cultural identity in the UAE through the phenomenon of the male Emirati teacher deficit. In what ways does the deficit seem to matter to Emiratis? Is cultural compatibility between Emirati boys and their teachers important – and why? For Emiratis, what determines cultural compatibility?
