After five years as an English teacher at a secondary school in Cornwall, I studied for an MA in English (Literature, Place and Identity) at the University of Exeter's Cornwall Campus. My MA dissertation, on the function of the reader in Mary Wollstonecraft's Letters Written During a Short Residence in Sweden, Norway and Denmark, led directly into the topic of my PhD thesis: the cultural impact of Wollstonecraft on the early Romantic period.
