Bonnie Green. BSc (Hons), MScEmail: B.Green@exeter.ac.uk School: School of Humanities and Social Sciences My background is primarily in sociology and social research methods. Having obtained a first class honours degree in sociology and psychology, I focussed much of my later MSc study, at the London School of Economics (LSE), on various sociological and social psychological approaches to new technologies. This included gaining a wide and varied knowledge of different theoretical perspectives in STS, though one which also allowed me to develop my interest in science communication and public perceptions of science and technology in society. This work was complemented by comprehensive grounding in quantitative and qualitative research methods and designs. This training invested me with a deep commitment to both, developing, extending and integrating elements within the basic toolkit of methodological strategies, and to ensuring these techniques are appropriately used within all areas of social research. Particularly with regard to qualitative inquiry, my experiences at LSE have provided me with the skills to assess the quality of such research, though also to require it of my own practice. |
