Helena is a final year PhD student in Politics at University of Exeter. She submitted her thesis in June 2013. Her thesis explores the relationship between identity and political representation, with a focus on descriptive and symbolic representation of minority groups.

She completed her undergraduate study at University of Canterbury in New Zealand where she gained a First Class degree in Political Science and History, and completed her M.A (Distinction) at Victoria University, Wellington in 2008. She was a teaching assistant during this time, in Politics and International Relations, as well undertaking research for several members of staff. She continues in both roles at University of Exeter during her doctoral study.

Helena has also worked as a member of staff for Members of Parliament in New Zealand, and undertaken independent research projects for groups such as the Institute of Public Policy at Victoria University, Wellington and the New Zealand Electoral Commission.

Her areas of interest include political representation, identity politics, voter behaviour, gender issues, and political participation.
