Having graduated with a degree in Ocean Science from the School of Ocean Sciences, Bangor University, I was awarded a NERC studentship for a masters in Applied Physical Oceanography, also at Bangor. Here I developed an interest in wave-induced sediment dynamics and for my MSc research project I investigated the accuracy of a one-dimensional turbulence closure model in predicting sand transport beneath saw-tooth (breaking) waves. For my PhD I have progressed from sand to boulder-sized material, and am now investigating the interrelationship between boulder beach dynamics and storm events.
