Offers a critical study of Western literature from the seventeenth century through the twentieth century as a continuation of ENG 201. Topics and writers may include: Montaigne, Cervantes, Baroque poetry, Moliere, Goethe, German romanticism, Chekhov, Kafka
This course builds on the skills achieved in the previous courses. It focuses on synthesizing sources producing an empirical research paper, and defending it in front of an audience.
This course is designed to develop advanced reading and writing skills associated with academic work. Emphasis is on the analytical reading of different text types required in the disciplines as well as on synthesis from a variety of sources to produce a written text.
This course explores ways to approach the moral decisions individuals encounter in their daily life, with the focus on critical thinking and the importance of integrity. The course promotes productive dialogue, tolerance for diverse viewpoints on ethical issues, and skills of responsive citizenship
A course on the fundamentals of oral communication along with practice in platform speaking in exposition and persuasion. Emphasis is placed on the use of correct and effective language and organizational skills in preparing, delivering, and evaluating different types of oral presentations.
Academic English I exposes students, through a variety of reading strategies, to a range of texts from different genres. It emphasizes written guided responses and oral/aural tasks and reinforces research-based tasks needed across the disciplines.
