I spent the four years before my PhD studying at the University of Exeter with a BA in Classics and an MA in Classics and Ancient History. During this time I wrote two dissertations. The first investigated the depiction of the declining Romanitas in Juvenal's first book of Satires and their use as a social commentary. The second examined the epitaphic poems in Martial's Epigrams and their role within the corpus.

My doctoral research, which investigated the literary structure of the individual books of Martial's Epigrams, was only made possible through a generous grant from the AHRC, for which I am exceptionally thankful. Further details of this project can be found under my research tab, or through emailing me.

This academic year I will be teaching on the Roman Love Elegy & Latin I courses. Last year I was commended as Runner-Up for Best Postgraduate Teacher in the University of Exeter Teaching Awards.

My other interests besides Classics include Scouting, tuba-playing and gaming (board & video). There is a special place in my heart for Terry Pratchett novels.
