Profile:

I am a PhD student based at the University of Exeter, and part of the NERC GW4+ Doctoral Training Partnership (http://nercgw4plus.ac.uk/).

The aim of my PhD is to better understand the seasonal cycles of leaf phenology in Amazonian forests, in response to drought. Drought is predicted to increase in frequency and severity across the Amazon due to climate change, and there is a large uncertainty associated with the consequences that this will have on rainforests. It is, however, generally agreed that it will have drastic impacts on the global climate, given the magnitude of the interactions between Amazonia and the atmosphere.

Current models are limited in their ability to accurately predict fluxes of CO2 in drought stressed forests. I will work with the Met Office to develop the mathematical representation of phenological cycles in drought stressed forests with the hope that this will improve future projections of CO2 exchange.
