~~My academic background is in Geography. I was the Head of Geography at the College (now University) of St Mark and St John (Marjon) before making a career change and moving into education enhancement. I held posts as Director of the Centre for Learning and Teaching at Marjon (1999-2001), Head of Educational Development & Learning Technologies at the University of Plymouth (2001-08). I was Director of Education Enhancement at the University of Exeter (2008-2012) with strategic responsibilities for aspects of the student experience and co-coordinating a range of programmes and initiatives to address ways of enhancing teaching, learning and assessment. I retired from this role in 2012 and have had an advisory post linked to an innovative, institution-wide curriculum innovation at Exeter. I am working towards a doctorate focussed on ’reluctance to lead’ in research intensive universities.

I am a past Chair of  the Heads of Educational Development Group (HEDG), have been an external consultant for the Higher Education Academy and on the Editorial Boards for three learning and teaching journals.
