After acquiring a few years of professional experience in marketing communication, I embarked on an undergraduate degree (Université de Montréal), whilst still acting as a practitioner in the field. Over time, I have developed a growing concern about the effects of mass-mediated gender/body ideologies on an individual's identity, as well as a critical eye for the integrity of certain representational practices in the field. This led to a master's degree in marketing research at HEC Montréal, where I explored alternative modes of gender representations (18-month ethnographic research) within North American neo-burlesque communities. I pursued this interest for identity politics and ethics in representation whilst undertaking my PhD research. As part of the latter, I explore alternative, more 'humanised' modes of representation of fat/fuller-figured individuals for the purpose of marketing communication, as well as research representation.
