Thesis title: 'Grant Allen: Knowledge, Evidence, and the Victorian Man of Science'
I am a PhD candidate funded by the South West and Wales Doctoral Training Partnership.
After completing my BA in English Language and Literature at the University of Nottingham (First Class Hons) in 2014, I was awarded Distinction in MA English Studies from the University of Exeter in 2016, attaining a high Distinction in my dissertation on Grant Allen's crime serial "An African Millionaire" and his writings on evolution. I also received the Dean's Commendation for Exceptional Performance for English from the Dean of the College of Humanities, and the Dean's Commendation for Outstanding Achievement for MA English Literary Studies from the Dean of Taught Programmes.
I worked as a Project Assistant on both the 'Hardy and Heritage' project and the 'Places of Poetry' project. I co-represented the Centre for Victorian Studies at the University's Spring Community Day in 2016. More recently, I assisted the organisers of the British Association for Victorian Studies annual conference 2018, by attending meetings, helping to shortlist abstracts, arranging panels, staffing the welcome desk, and chairing panels.
The conferences at which I have presented papers include: Victorian Popular Fictions Association Annual Conference (hosted online by the University of Greenwich, 2020), the Exclamat!on: An Interdisciplinary Journal Annual Conference (University of Exeter, 2019), Fraud and Forgery in Literature of the Long Nineteenth Century (Aarhus University, 2018), SWW DTP STEAM Research Cluster's Work-in-Progress conference (University of Bristol, 2018), Criminal Heritage: Crime, Fiction, and History (Leeds Beckett University, 2017), and the British Society for Literature and Science Winter Symposium (University of Exeter, 2016).
I hold both a Higher Education Academy (HEA) Associate Fellowship and a University of Exeter Accrediting Staff Professionalism in Research-Led Education (ASPIRE) Fellowship.
