I am a full-time primary school teacher, and I have found the experience of working with young children both fascinating and rewarding. Every day comes packed full of expectation, challenge, excitement and experience. Above all, the opportunity to watch children conceptualise the world around them as they pass through their formative years is interesting, and how each individual child apply and utilise the learning resources at their disposal, makes my job intriguing. I have had experiences in different educational roles, one of which was working in a mainstream school as a special needs coordinator. This role gave me the opportunity to work with children suffering from severe learning and physical difficulties, sensory loss, physical, behaviour challenges, and Autistic Spectrum Disorder. I have also had roles as a main class teacher for years one and three.
As a result of my experience in working with children with learning difficulties, I witnessed the gap between management and understanding children’s behaviour in mainstream schools, and this provoked my decision to study for a MSc degree in Psychology with the University of East London (UK) in 2013. I believed it would provide me with the tools to make a difference to the lives of children. After obtaining the MSc degree, I continued as a teacher, making positive contributions and providing support at all levels of primary education from foundation to year six.
