Project Summary

My research explores the cultural value of intergenerational art projects for people with dementia. I am specifically interested in extending knowledge on dementia and citizenship by analysis how (and if) intergenerational art programmes might identify people living with dementia as active subjects and create broader social meaning and value for participants engaged in these programmes.

This project will answer the call of the AHRC to interrogate the cultural value of the arts for society by investigating how the shift from passive welfare recipients to active agents of the creative process gives a deeper sense of personhood and social relation to those without dementia, as well as those who do have it.

I hope to inform current and future creative work with people with dementia and to challenge the way we, as a society, look at dementia and interact with people with dementia.
