Thank you for visiting my eProfile.

I was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Politics from the University of Exeter in 2015. I also gained an MA (with Distinction) in International Relations: Global Security and Development from the University of Plymouth in 2008. I qualified as an Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2012.

My current post-doctoral research derives from, and complements, a professional career of over 40 years, spent chiefly in the fields of international external affairs, both in the public and private sectors, and journalism. As a government official in external affairs and information, and as a public affairs consultant, I have wide international experience in providing communications direction and designing and mounting campaigns for govenments, corporate clients and lobby groups. I have taught ‘Strategic Public Communication' at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and teach an on-going programme of workshops in understanding the media, news, and public affairs. I tutored in the 2nd-year Politics module POL 2049: Media, Public Opinion, and Campaigns at Exeter throughout the Spring semester of 2011.

Apart from my post-doctoral research and teaching commitments, I am a Managing Partner in Stagecoach Consulting, an independent consultancy with a global reach in good governance and public communication (www.stagecoach-consulting.com).

Other career milestones: As Vice President and Director of the Public Affairs and Government Relations Practice for Weber Shandwick Worldwide Hong Kong, then the largest PR agency in both Hong Kong and worldwide, I designed and managed a diverse portfolio of programmes for public affairs and corporate clients, specialising in national public awareness campaigns and media relations.

As Communications Manager for Coca-Cola International, covering over 60 countries throughout the Far East and Middle East, I was involved in the development and implementation of external affairs strategies, including media relations and crisis management.

Prior to this, I held managerial positions in the information department of the Hong Kong Government for 17 years. My responsibilities, both in Hong Kong and internationally, included media relations and managing the media exposure of senior officials, political analysis and lobbying, publishing, campaigns and events management. I was press secretary to Hong Kong’s first inter-parliamentary delegation.

For more than seven years, I was a sub-editor, columnist and journalist in Australia and Asia. I have work experience in Australia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Macau, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, USA, and the United Kingdom.
