I am a PhD candidate, and started in 2011 with expected completion of 2015. I returned to study having chosen a sabbatical from corporate life. I am in receipt of an ESRC studentship through the South West Doctoral Training Centre. My academic background is: BA (Hons) Business and Management, MA Industrial Relations (University of Warwick), and MSc International Festival & Events Management (Edinburgh Napier University). I have 17+ years professional work experience in the field of Human Resources. I started my professional life at Nortel Networks in Global Mobility, and progressed into the specialist area of global Compensation and Benefits - or HR Reward as it is more commonly known today. I started my HR Reward training responsible for compensation and benefits across Southern Europe and Middle East and Africa, and was ultimately responsible for Compensation across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA), working through a matrix structure to support all policy and programs across all Lines of Business in the Region. I then moved to Centrica where I held various roles including responsibility for employee Reward in British Gas, followed by supporting Corporate Centre, OneTel, and 'Upstream' operations. I was also seconded for a year to Toronto to the Direct Energy business where I was Special Benefits Project Director across Canada and USA. My next move was to PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), where I was responsible for reward in the Tax practice, and then acquired responsibility for the Advisory and Legal Practices, and provided support and counsel for the Audit practice. As part of the 'Internal Firm Services' I also was deployed for support to other PwC entities in Poland and Tokyo. Latterly I was the HR Reward Director for Prudential UK & Europe, responsible for all employee compensation, benefits, incentives and recognition, and Executive remuneration for the Prudential UK & Europe Board. I led a team of 12, and responsible for a budget of c. £1.5m, and responsible for total reward value in excess of £120m. I have worked overseas in Munich, Germany (voluntary 'gap' year), and Toronto, Canada.
