I was invited to give a short talk in the place of a film trailer for David Lean's 1948 Oliver Twist. The event was held at the Exeter Picture House and attracted members of the public as well as students. I wrote a blog post which was published on the Screen Talks blog and can be read here: http://blogs.exeter.ac.uk/screentalks/ and I also Tweeted Dickensian links in advance of the film screening via my Twitter account: @hlewisbill. I found this to be an excellent experience and particularly enjoyed the conversations I had after the film with those who had attended.
I gave a one hour lecture on this second year English module at the Streatham Campus. The lecture considered Charles Dickens's Our Mutual Friend and looked at publication history, waste and excess and commodity culture.
I taught on this first year undergraduate module which looks at a diverse range of literature from 'The Bible' to Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein' over a 12 week period. I led two seminar groups this term which was extremely rewarding and I found that the level of student engagement in the course was excellent. I was responsible for leading the two hour seminar each week. The module had three pieces of coursework which I was responsible for marking.
This scheme is run by the University of Exeter and enables secondary school students to sample University teaching.
I gave a lecture on this first year module at the Univeristy of Exeter's Cornwall Campus. The lecture considered Stevenson's Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde alongside nineteenth century contexts.
I taught on this first year module which explores the rise of the novel from Defoe's prototype eighteenth century novel to the twenty-first century graphic novel form. The course spans 11 weeks and looks at a varied range of novels:

Charles Dickens's Great Expectations
Virginia Woolf's The Waves
Don DeLillo's White Noise
David Dabydeen's The Harlot's Progress
Alison Bechdel's Fun Home
I gave a lecture on Elizabeth Gaskell's Ruth for the third year module Sex, Scandal and Sensation at the Cornwall campus. The lecture considered the role of the fallen woman in Victorian literature and her representation in art, society and the novel.
I taught on this first year undergraduate module which looks at a diverse range of literature from 'The Bible' to Mary Shelley's 'Frankenstein'. I took a two hour seminar each week and was responsible for marking my seminar group's work.
I gave a lecture on 'Jekyll and Hyde' and Psychoanalysis on this second year undergraduate module at the Cornwall campus. The lecture considered Stevenson's novel and the notion of 'The Uncanny' as defined by Freud
I led a class on this module for the third year, third hour. The seminar I led considered Elizabeth Gaskell's 'Ruth' in terms of her role as a fallen woman and I presented a selection of additional reading such as 'Prostitution in London' by Bracebridge Hemyng and 'Prostitution' by William Alton. The students also looked at the painting 'Awakening Conscience' by William Holman Hunt. This offered a wonderful opportunity to teach at the Tremough Campus and fostered a thought provoking seminar discussion.
I am leading two seminar groups on this first year module with each seminar running for an hour. The course charts the progress of the novel from Daniel Defoe's 'Roxana' to the twenty first century graphic novel by Alison Bechdel 'Fun Home' and provides an opportunity for the students to consider both the context and text in specially tailored sessions.

I shadowed Dr Paul Williams on this first year undergraduate module where I contributed to all teaching activities which included leading three seminars. I also shadow marked essays which provided a valuable opportunity to familiarise myself with the demands of marking at degree level.
I have been a private tutor for the past twelve years tutoring children and preparing them for their key stage examinations. I have continued to tutor this throughout my studies and have found it to be an interesting and rewarding experience.
