I recently joined the department in September 2012 after completing my BA and MA degree programmes at the University of Nottingham. My time in Nottingham enabled me to develop my interest in Antiquity and in particular a passion for military and diplomatic history. The subjects which I covered on these courses provided me with a strong background in historiography, political theory and international relations, all of which have contributed to my choice of research area. During my Masters degree, I took the 'Warrior Societies' pathway in which I studied both Greek and Roman military history and was able to divert from the traditional pathway by augmenting these studies with Ancient Greek and Latin language modules. For my MA dissertation I was able to focus particularly on Roman military and diplomatic engagements during the Third and Second Centuries BC and this interest has carried over into my current research. For the dissertation I compared and contrasted Roman diplomacy with the Kings of North Africa and the Greek East, including relations with Illyria for which my current research focuses.
