Professional/research experience

June 2011 - August 2012:

Utila, Honduras

Mangrove Project Leader, Operation Wallacea:

In this role my main responsibilities involved the supervision and coordination of field work and sampling of kayak based projects within the study area. As such I was responsible for the safety of the students and volunteers and for the supervision of any related university research projects.

In addition to my field responsibilities I also provided assistance, where needed, to ensure the success of the expedition, both in terms of research output and volunteer satisfaction. As part of this I regularly presented lectures to the school and university volunteers on the issues concerning the conservation of mangrove and seagrass habitats, and the wider tropical marine environment.

June 2010 - August 2011:

Utila, Honduras

Research Assistant, Operation Wallacea:

As a research assistant I was part of a team whose primary aim was to investigate the health status of the mangrove ecosystem on Utila. A wide range of parameters, including forest structure, invertebrate community, sediment characteristics, and water quality, were employed and analysed, combining both field and laboratory analysis, in order to determine the impact of urbanisation and development on the overall health ecosystem.

In addition to this research I was also involved in the wider marine related project based on the island, relating to the ecological monitoring of the coral reef system around the island.
