I initially trained as a scientist in the early 1960s and spent over 25 years teaching and then managing Government education projects.

In the 1980s I studied theology and when redundancy came because of Government reorganisation I became a vicar in Suffolk.

I retired from being a vicar in 2002 and moved to Somerset to be near grandchildren, and started work in mental health from which I retired in 2009.

I now work at Glastonbury Abbey two days a week and volunteer at the Bishop's Palace in Wells.

My work at Glastonbury reignited my interest in history which led to my studying for my second PhD this time in history at Exeter.
