N. Eda Erçin is a performer, researcher and educator of experimental devised theatre and multimedia performance. As an advanced PhD candidate in Performance Practice at the University of Exeter (supported by the College of Humanities International Doctorate Studentship), she specializes in physical and auto-biographical forms of contemporary performance/theatre and everyday performance of gender. Her practice as research PhD project questions the notions of purity and virginity as a daily performance of the female body (specifically within the context of contemporary Turkey). Her most recent artistic and scholarly work in the AHRC-funded Judaica Project (2017) looks at the relationship between movement, voice, song and construction of identity in laboratory practice. 

Eda has a strong background and fieldwork experience in social research. She holds a BA degree in Sociology with a Minor in Political Science from Middle East Technical University (Ankara, Turkey), an MA degree in Performance Studies from Southern Illinois University Carbondale (supported by Fulbright Scholarship). Since 2001, she has trained and performed with critically acclaimed contemporary theatre ensembles in and outside of Turkey including ODTÜ Oyuncuları/ METU Players, Ankara Sanat Tiyatrosu / Ankara Art Theatre, Cornerstone Theater Company (LA) and Double Edge Theatre (Massachusetts).
