Professional/research experience

September 2010 - March 2013:

University of Medicine and Pharmacy

My interest in medical migration originated in 2003 when I started to work with medical schools, first in Romania, and from 2010 in the UK. Between 2010 and 2013 I received formal training in medical sociology during my EU grant project POSDRU/89/1.5/S/61879 about Ethics and Healthcare Policies. In this international project I collaborated with the University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Gr. T. Popa” Iasi, Romania, and worked in an interdisciplinary team conducting interviews with Romanian doctors who work in the UK, analysing data and constructing hypotheses regarding socio-cultural aspects of medical migration from Romania to Western Europe. This project has opened for me new research perspectives on medical sociology, and I further trained and specialised in qualitative research methods. Part of this training was delivered by the US Professor Sana Loue, editor of the Journal of Immigrant and Minority Health. During that time I analysed the WHO Code of Recruitment of medical personnel (2010). In May 2013 we prepared and delivered a report on medical migration for the European Parliament.
